Starting 5-27-09 Primal will be offering our first Brazilian Jiujitsu class. The classes will run for 2 hours, Monday and Thursdays from 5pm-7pm, and Wednesday from 4-6pm. Instructing will be Devin Bartolomeo, a regular fixture in our Judo club. Here are some details: BJJ:
Brazilian Jiujitsu is an art derived from Meiji-era Jujutsu and Judo, taught to the Gracie brothers in the early 20th century by a Japanese immigrant named Mitsuyo Maeda. The Gracies ended up modifying the arts they were taught to focus more on groundfighting, then spread the art through the use of 'Vale Tudo' matches that were the ancestors of modern day MMA matches. Today Jiujitsu offers an exciting sport and method of self defense that can be used by anyone regardless of size.
Bio:
Devin Bartolomeo has been training martial arts since he was a preteen. For the past six years he studied under Relson Gracie black belt and proffesional MMA fighter Phil Cardella, under whose authorization he teaches, earning the rank of purple belt. He has numerous competitions under his belt including sweeping his division two years in a row at the Battle at Baylor tournament. The cost will be the same as our Judo club, $80/month with deals offered to those who participate in both Judo and BJJ. |
