November Crossfit Challenge, Crossfit Total!

After a brief hiatus we'll be bringing back our weekend Crossfit challenge workouts, starting November 7th with the Crossfit Total! The Total consists of 3 attempts each at a One-Rep Maximum lift in the Back Squat, Overhead Press and Deadlift. Your Total is the combination of the heaviest of each lift. This is a great test of overall strength, and as we all know:

"Strong people are harder to kill than weak people, and more useful in general." --Mark Rippetoe--

Come out and grind some max attempts with us from 3-6pm, which will of course be followed by grilling prodigious amounts of meat (so also bring some side-dishes!) Participation will be free for monthly Primal clients, and $20 for any non-members who wish to join us. Please email This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it if you're planning on attending. See you there!

Christy Does It Again

Christy Phillips continues adding to her list of fitness-related accomplishments.  As most of you know, Christy finished in 6th Place at the 2009 CrossFit Games.  Just last Saturday, Christy took 1st Place at the Mid-Atlantic Hopper Challenge.  It was a full day consisting of three events chosen at random in true hopper-style.

The first event was a 2-rep max deadlift.  Christy pulled 265# for two.  The second event was a 21-15-9 triplet consisting of 65# overhead squats, burpees, and push-ups.  Christy once again put up a solid time, despite not being happy with her performance.  The last workout was Christy's favorite format - a chipper!

30 Double-unders
7 Back Squats, 85#
30 GHD Situps
7 Snatches, 85#
30 Wall-Ball, 14#
7 Push Jerks, 85#
30 Toes-to-Bar

As she does time and time again, Christy performed incredibly.  Exchaning the lead several times with last year's winner, Glory Dawson, Christy pulled ahead and finished the chipper first.  Christy has been working hard for the past few months preparing for this competition and she didn't disappoint.  This, despite a very hectic schedule, including George Washington University's nursing program.

This is the second year of the Hopper and all proceeds went to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project.  Thanks for repping Primal proper once again, Christy - great job!

Fight Gone Bad IV video up now!

At long last Primal's official video for Fight Gone Bad IV is now up on our new youtube page HERE.  It will also be posted on our Facebook page shortly.  Unfortunately, it was not completed in time for the 2009 Pukie FilmFest, but it didn't meet the rules for the contest anyway.  Besides, just like "Fran," Quint cannot get it all in under three minutes.  This video is a testament to how hard everyone worked and serves as our tribute to each one of you and your collective efforts.  Thanks for once again proving why Primal Fitness is the best gym in DC...

Speaking of which, VOTE for us now!

Primal Supports Our Troops

On October 2nd, Primal welcomed Delta Company, 1st Battalion, 3d Infantry, from the United States Army to make use of our climbing ropes.  Captain David Allen, the commanding officer of the unit, asked if his guys could be tested on their rope climbing proficiency.  Here at Primal, we never shy from an opportunity to assist our brave service men and women.

According to Captain Allen, in order for these soldiers to apply to various schools, such as the 82nd Airborne Division or Ranger School, they must show that they are competent on climbing a rope.  Most of these schools are equipped with strenuous obstacles courses and it's crucial that these men be prepared for the challenges ahead of them.  As the only other viable option for rope climbs would be all the way down in Quantico, Primal was an obvious choice.  Roughly a dozen soldiers of our proud U.S. Army arrived in full fatigues to climb our ropes.

On behalf of everyone at Primal, we would like to extend our sincerest gratitude to these men for their service to our country.  And good luck with all of their future endeavors.
