Primal's Memorial Day "Murph" Fundraiser

Better late than never, we're announcing our plans to run another "Murph" fundraiser this year on Memorial Day. This year we'll again be raising money for the Yellow Ribbon Fund , which helps wounded soldiers at Walter Reed Hospital. Of course, the full-scale workout will be:

Run 1 Mile

100 Pull-ups

200 Push-Ups

300 Squats

Run 1 Mile

For time, with reps partitioned as-needed. We will be running scaled versions that will be appropriate for all ability levels, so be sure to get your friends and family involved!

We'll be starting the workout at 11AM on Memorial Day, and we'll run the main workout until 2:00 PM. At that point we'll be throwing down with another Primal barbeque, so bring sides for the massive meat fest that we always ensure ;)

The cost for participation will be $35 and will include water and gatorade for all participants along with an event day t-shirt! Check out the Primal store  for sign-up details. We'll also be accepting donations from non-participants. So tell all of your friends!

Primal Spring Open House, 5-15-10!

Next weekend, on Saturday 5-15-10, we'll be holding an open house at Primal DC, and we want you to bring in as many friends and family as possible so they can see what a great community we have here! All of our classes throughout the day will be free and will be designed with both novice and intermediate trainees in mind so that anybody interested can drop in and see what we're all about.

Starting a 8:30 AM we'll be serving coffee and other refreshments before our 9-10AM Primal Crossfit group class. This will be a great opportunity to come try one of our great Primal Fitness workouts, the most fun and effective workout in DC!

From 10-11AM and from 11AM-12PM we'll run individual sessions focusing on basic Parkour training combined with our patented Primal Fitness conditioning. These sessions will be set up with new people in mind, so don't worry about jumping in over your head.

From 12-2PM we'll fire up the grill and have burgers, dogs and various side-dishes available for everybody in attendence. During this time we'll also be giving away some great Primal apparel and assorted gear, as well as some coupons for free training! From 1-2PM our Parkour bootcamp will be open for observation, so those that are on the fence about whether or not to get involved in our one of a kind Parkour training will have an opportunity to see our training methods and observe our bootcampers during their final class of the 6 week session.

We hope to have a HUGE turnout for this, so bring your friends, family, random people off the street...tell the cop that gives you a ticket for speeding on the way to the gym, email your congressional representative, send out an e-vite, a facebook event, a tweet, whatever it takes! Hope we see you there!

Farewell Eugene!

It is with heavy hearts that we say farewell to Eugene Shen who has been a Parkour Instructor at Primal for over a year now. Almost anyone who has had a parkour class here would have been helped by Eugene at some point! He's now heading off for Taipei, and has already hooked up with the locals there to train and jam. Thanks Eugene for being one of the kindest most outgoing people we know, and thanks for all the Pocky!

Primal Barbell Club & The A-Team

A couple of announcements:

First off, as you're all well aware, strength is something we regard very highly at Primal Fitness.  It's benefits greatly carry over into all aspects of your fitness and we therefore make it a serious priority.  Now, thanks to Binhong Lu, our resident USA Weightlifting certified coach, Primal Fitness has an officially sanctioned weightlifting club.  Naturally, the below video is our official unveiling...

Next on the agenda, members of Primal's Affiliate Team left for Ohio yesterday to attend the Central East Regionals for a chance to compete in the 2010 CrossFit Games Affiliate Cup.  Nick, Ryan, Greg, ODB, Katie, and Sarah will be participating in three brutal team workouts on Friday.  And I'm not sugar-coating it when I say brutal.  Out of 32 teams, only the top 16 will qualify for Sunday's final event.  They have been training hard for several months and hope to put on quite a show - in matching outfits, of course.  You can follow their progress all day on this makeshift Twitter account Katie was gracious enough to create: http://twitter.com/teamprimal.  Best of luck, guys and girls!
