Christy Phillips continues adding to her list of fitness-related accomplishments. As most of you know, Christy finished in 6th Place at the 2009 CrossFit Games. Just last Saturday, Christy took 1st Place at the Mid-Atlantic Hopper Challenge. It was a full day consisting of three events chosen at random in true hopper-style.
The first event was a 2-rep max deadlift. Christy pulled 265# for two. The second event was a 21-15-9 triplet consisting of 65# overhead squats, burpees, and push-ups. Christy once again put up a solid time, despite not being happy with her performance. The last workout was Christy's favorite format - a chipper!
As she does time and time again, Christy performed incredibly. Exchaning the lead several times with last year's winner, Glory Dawson, Christy pulled ahead and finished the chipper first. Christy has been working hard for the past few months preparing for this competition and she didn't disappoint. This, despite a very hectic schedule, including George Washington University's nursing program.
This is the second year of the Hopper and all proceeds went to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project. Thanks for repping Primal proper once again, Christy - great job!
At long last Primal's official video for Fight Gone Bad IV is now up on our new youtube page HERE. It will also be posted on our Facebook page shortly. Unfortunately, it was not completed in time for the 2009 Pukie FilmFest, but it didn't meet the rules for the contest anyway. Besides, just like "Fran," Quint cannot get it all in under three minutes. This video is a testament to how hard everyone worked and serves as our tribute to each one of you and your collective efforts. Thanks for once again proving why Primal Fitness is the best gym in DC...
On October 2nd, Primal welcomed Delta Company, 1st Battalion, 3d Infantry, from the United States Army to make use of our climbing ropes. Captain David Allen, the commanding officer of the unit, asked if his guys could be tested on their rope climbing proficiency. Here at Primal, we never shy from an opportunity to assist our brave service men and women.
According to Captain Allen, in order for these soldiers to apply to various schools, such as the 82nd Airborne Division or Ranger School, they must show that they are competent on climbing a rope. Most of these schools are equipped with strenuous obstacles courses and it's crucial that these men be prepared for the challenges ahead of them. As the only other viable option for rope climbs would be all the way down in Quantico, Primal was an obvious choice. Roughly a dozen soldiers of our proud U.S. Army arrived in full fatigues to climb our ropes.
On behalf of everyone at Primal, we would like to extend our sincerest gratitude to these men for their service to our country. And good luck with all of their future endeavors.
This past Saturday, September 26th, the CrossFitters from Primal Fitness participated in Fight Gone Bad IV, a fundraising effort to fund research for prostate cancer and provide aid to wounded U.S. soldiers returning from overseas. Twenty-five Primates came out to take on the brutal workout (not all pictured, unfortunately). Thanks to all of you, Primal raised over $5000. This year, thanks to efforts of the entire CrossFit community, over $1 million has been raised for this great cause.
As anticipated, Christy Phillips and Travis Noble Graves had the highest scores with 363 and 348, respectively. Swimmer Dave was third with 324 and Banana Roll had another solid performance with 311. The real winner, however, was Nate Nash, who single-handedly raised over $2000 in donations. A little competition was sparked between Jess Roberts and Banana Roll in fundraising efforts. In the end, Jess edged out B-Roll by raising $500 to his $475.
The event went off without a hitch and we would like to thank everyone for all their effort, support, and hard work. Great work, guys!
Quint paints new lines on the wall for Fight Gone Bad IV
this Saturday, September 26th. The event kicks off at 3PM and there will be a cookout
afterwards for all to enjoy. If you haven't signed up yet, there is
still time. Just go to the above website, register, choose Primal
Fitness as your affiliate, and start raising money. Every little bit
helps.
If you won't be able to attend, you're still encouraged to
raise money if at all possible. You can either donate to an individual
Primate online or write a check. All proceeds will go to Athletes For A Cure and the Wounded Warrior Project, two great initiatives to raise money in the fight against prostate cancer and to aid injured U.S. soldiers returning from overseas, respectively.
This is a great event for an even better cause and we'd love to see you all there. Thousands of CrossFit affiliates from across the world participate in this event every year. At this moment, over $636,000 have been raised by the entire CrossFit community. Let's help add to that. Don't try using college football as an excuse and remember: throw those medicine balls over the line.
